This policy explains how Mortgage Broker Ipswich collects, holds, uses and discloses your personal and credit information. We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the Australian Privacy Principles and Part IIIA which covers credit reporting, and by the Privacy (Credit Reporting) Code.
Information We Collect
To assess a loan application and act as your broker we generally need:
- Identity information: your name, date of birth, contact details and identification documents
- Financial information: income, employment, assets, liabilities, expenses, bank and loan statements, and tax returns where relevant
- Credit information: your credit history, existing credit accounts, repayment history and credit scores obtained from credit reporting bodies
- Information about the property, including its address, value and insurance
- Sensitive information only where it is directly relevant, such as health information supporting a hardship application, and only with your consent
We collect this from you directly wherever possible. We may also collect it from credit reporting bodies, lenders, your accountant or referrers where you have authorised that.
Why We Collect It
We use your information to:
- Assess what you can borrow and which lenders suit your situation
- Prepare, lodge and manage a credit application on your behalf
- Meet our obligations under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009, including responsible lending and the Best Interests Duty
- Verify your identity under anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing law
- Respond to your enquiries and contact you about your application or your existing loan
If you do not provide the information we ask for, we may be unable to assess your situation or submit an application for you.
Who We Disclose It To
We may disclose your information to:
- Lenders and lenders mortgage insurers considering your application
- Credit reporting bodies, and we may obtain a credit report about you
- Our aggregator and any licensee we operate under
- Valuers, conveyancers, solicitors, accountants and other parties involved in your transaction
- Service providers who support our business, such as software and document storage providers, under confidentiality obligations
- Regulators, courts or others where required or authorised by law
We do not sell your information and we do not disclose it for another party's marketing purposes.
Credit Reporting
Where you apply for credit, a credit reporting body may create or update a credit report about you and that enquiry may affect your credit score. You have the right to request that a credit reporting body not use your information for pre-screening a direct marketing offer, and to request a ban on your credit information if you believe you have been or are at risk of being a victim of fraud.
Overseas Disclosure
Some of our service providers, including cloud storage and software providers, may store data outside Australia. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
How We Store and Protect It
We hold information electronically and, where applicable, in physical files. We take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including access controls, secure storage and staff confidentiality obligations. We keep records for the periods required by law and destroy or de-identify them when no longer needed.
Accessing and Correcting Your Information

Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your information, contact us first and we will investigate and respond in writing. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can take the matter to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, which is the free external dispute resolution scheme for financial services, or to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
